ADVANTAGES OF HIRING A YOUTH BUILD BAHAMAS GRADUATE
Our Graduates have an EDGE in the labour market. This is because they behave in the way an employer expects them to behave! Our Graduates are generally more prepared for the real world than students from vocational colleges. The reasons are six-fold:
BEHAVIOUR
Our students participate in personal counseling, peer support groups, and life-planning processes that assist them in healing from past hurts, overcoming negative habits and attitudes, and pursuing achievable goals that will establish a productive life, sustaining themselves and their immediate families. Positive behaviours are taught and reinforced that will support them in their employment.
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
Our graduates are taught that leadership starts with being a responsible group member who can keep one’s own commitments and support the achievements of the group’s goals and objectives through cooperative work and reliability. Leadership competencies are defined and taught, and a process of evaluation of mastery of these competencies is carried out.
EDUCATION
All YouthBuild graduates are assessed educationally and participate in a curriculum that is designed to achieve minimum educational standards. Examples include basic skills instruction in maths and english, remedial education, secondary education, and courses designed to lead to the attainment of a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
INITIATIVE & TEAMWORK
Our graduates are exposed to initiative and teamwork through Team Building Activities, Initiative Games, & Problem Solving Exercises. All graduates participate in an Entrepreneurial program that gives them the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity, initiative, planning, and teamwork skills.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
VOCATIONAL SKILLS
Our hospitality graduates are professionally trained in customer service with foundational skillset development. Cross training takes place in Guest Services, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and Butlering. The courses were specifically designed for individuals and frontline employees seeking certification in their fields to give them the maximum opportunity for advancement.
Vocational education, including classroom training in construction terminology and concepts, is part of the educational services provided in Youthbuild programs. On-site training on a closely supervised construction site, with high standards of teamwork and productivity comprises 50 percent of the training program. “World of work” training focuses on jobseeking skills and general preparation for handling oneself maturely in the world of work.
