We take a willing unemployed student, male or female, age 17 to 25, from a low income area, who has not graduated from high school, and give them a second chance.
For 5 months we help them with education in maths and english, soft skills, vocational skills in either construction or hospitality, entrepreneurial and leadership skills and behavioral counseling.
On Graduation, we place them into either a full time paying job, part time paying job, internship, apprenticeship, or further education. We keep tabs on them to ensure a successful placement.
HOW IT WORKS
WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE

COMUNITY ASSET BUILDING
WORK BASED EDUCATION
The YouthBuild theory of change is if young people are engaged, so that they care about their communities, and their skills are cultivated and improved, you will see an improvement in citizen security. The Community Asset Building component is a unique element of Youthbuild. As the youth transform the environment around them, they are at the same time transforming themselves.
It is work-based education (WBE) that recognizes young people as an asset to their community. It builds on young people’s capabilities and desire to overcome daily challenges, and engages them in decision-making and in community asset building
INTENSE LEADERSHIP TRAINING
The YouthBuild definition of leadership is "Taking responsibility to make things go right for yourself, your family, your program, your community, and your country". Our program spends a considerable time teaching young people how to take responsibility and learn action-oriented leadership skills.
FULL TIME COUNSELING
TRANSPARENT & ACCOUNTABLE
As well as a job, young men and women need to build their resilience. Just having a skill will not cut it these days. Our youth are struggling with many issues not least abandonment and rejection, often leading to unpent anger just below the surface. Our focus on counseling ensures that our students have an opportunity to express and resolve the issues they are dealing with.
The program is strictly monitored and evaluated by the IDB for its effectiveness. YouthBuild International requires regular detailed financial reports as well as reports on the program itself.
